Massey Energy Slips To Loss In Q4 - Update

Coal producer Massey Energy Co. on Tuesday reported a loss for the fourth quarter compared to a profit last year, hurt by increased production costs, lower than expected production, and charges related to an explosion at one of its mines in April 2010. This marks the company's third straight quarterly loss.

Chesapeake Energy Corp. has reached an agreement with a Chinese company that will allow the Oklahoma City-based company to accelerate its drilling in the Niobrara shale formation, expecting to ultimately spur upward of 4,000 jobs in the Colorado-Wyoming region, a company official said Sunday.
