NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of some top utilities companies were mixed at the close of trading: AEP fell $.17 or .5 percent, to $35.41. ConEd rose $.08 or .2 percent, to $45.26. Duke Energy fell $.11 or .6 percent, to $17.70. Pepco Holdings fell $.02 or .1 percent, to $17.38. Southern Co fell $.05 or .1 percent, to $34.17.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of some top coal companies were up at the close of trading: Arch Coal rose $.35 or 1.7 percent, to $20.88. Consol Energy rose $.96 or 2.2 percent, to $45.05. Massey Energy rose $1.60 or 4.2 percent, to $39.50. Peabody Energy rose $.68 or 1.6 percent, to $43.15.
